For years the refining industry has sought to find better methods of profiling the fixed catalyst bed temperatures in hydrocracker and hydrotreater reactor vessels. Recognizing the need to improve existing reactor thermometry, Daily Thermetrics launched an entirely new, patented product: the CatTracker®. This temperature tracking system gives users the ability to better pinpoint process issues such as maldistribution and temperature escalation, while at the same time reducing shadow effect and channeling.

Patented Technology, Superior Performance

The CatTracker® is a flexible, yet highly rugged temperature profiling system manufactured only by Daily Thermetrics, using our expertise in aerospace swaged thermocouple technology. Each CatTracker® probe consists of a minerally insulated (MI) cable which can sense temperature along its length at various predetermined locations. The CatTracker®’s multiple temperature sensing points are each independent and isolated from one another, while at the same time ungrounded from the sheath. This patented design eliminates any possibility of signal interference (due to the fact that there is no common leg) and ensures the highest reliability for the most demanding applications.

The CatTracker® was successfully launched in 2000, and shortly thereafter there were thousands of CatTrackers® in active service in hydrocrackers, hydrotreaters, and other catalyst vessel applications throughout the world. Its extremely rugged, swaged thermocouple design allows the system to withstand catalyst loading, catalyst dumping, temperature escalations, etc. Ideal applications within oil refineries for the CatTracker® are fixed catalyst bed vessels. Petrochemical plants can also take advantage of the rugged CatTracker® system in applications such as EO (ethylene oxide) processes.

Unlike most thermocouples which can vary within a 12°F range at 800°F, the CatTracker® offers much better accuracy and repeatability, typically within 1.5°F from point to point. This enables process engineers to better determine whether the distributor tray is performing optimally.

Regardless of where the entry nozzle is located, you will not find a temperature profiling system with greater configuration flexibility. With the flexibility to bend and contour the thermocouple cables into most any shape or desired position, data acquisition possibilities are virtually limitless. Daily Thermetrics' CatTracker® is easily incorporated into practically any catalyst process, making retrofitting existing vessels easier than ever.

Durable, Reliable Construction

CatTracker® cables may be bent to conform to most any shape. In fact, a CatTracker® can be bent 180 degrees with a 1/2" radius without jeopardizing its integrity.

The CatTracker® is swaged (rather than drawn) for the following reasons:

• More MgO insulator between wires

• Higher compaction ratios

• Lower moisture content

• Greater unit density

Made with only the best materials, with 100% traceability

The composition of the thermocouple wires determine a thermocouple's accuracy. Furthermore, impurities introduced during the welding process also affect accuracy. To ensure uniform integrity throughout the CatTracker®, all of the wire used for each system is manufactured from the same lot. All welds are performed by ASME Section IX welders qualified in the 6G Position. In addition, all welds are heat treated after making the junctions. Each step in our manufacturing process is fully documented, and all materials used are 100% traceable.

LIMITED NUMBER OF NOZZELS

Even with only one nozzle, the CatTracker® can be used to profile the temperatures of an entire process vessel.
