INTRODUCING CATTRACKER® TECHNOLOGY

The CATTRACKER® CATALYST TEMPERATURE TRACKING SYSTEM, patented by Daily Thermetrics and first introduced commercially in 2001, is a proven technology with superior operational service over five continents profiling hundreds of reactors, regenerators and fractionating columns.

The CatTracker®, employing patented aerospace thermocouple technology, offers the process industry the most rugged yet flexible temperature probes designed to be in direct contact with the process and catalyst.  CatTracker® temperature sensors are designed to withstand the harshest environments and the most strenuous temperature demands.

 

Each CatTracker® probe consists of a mineral insulated (MI) cable which can sense temperature along its length at various predetermined locations. The CatTracker®’s multiple temperature sensing points are each independent and isolated from one another, while at the same time ungrounded from the sheath. The CatTracker®’s patented design eliminates any possibility of signal interference (due to the fact that there is no common leg) and provides unsurpassed reliability for the most demanding applications.

Hydrocracking, considered one of the most critical profit centers for a refinery, operates at high temperature and pressure where TM&C are vital to process efficiency.   In addition to process efficiency and maximization of catalytic performance, for hydrocracking, this exothermic application requires significant safety monitoring.  Refiners hydrocracking with CatTracker technology benefit from the most accurate and reliable temperature measurement system available.

Slurry Upgrading / Slurry Hydrocracking with CatTracker® Technology

 

In addition to traditional fixed bed hydrocracking applications, Daily Thermetrics is also uniquely qualified and approved for supply of specialized CatTracker® reactor temperature monitoring for the following slurry upgrading licensors:

  KBR TECHNOLOGY   --  VCC (Veba Combi Cracker)

 

As processing conditions become more challenging and the desire to improve marketability of  resid and slurry derived products become more attractive, refiners are beginning to invest in the latest processing technologies in slurry upgrading and slurry hydrocracking to find competitive advantages in their markets.

 

Daily Thermetrics is the only catalyst/reactor temperature monitoring equipment  manufacturer approved and endorsed by the leading process licensors for such process technologies.

 

Additionally, start-up of ENI's EST unit at the Sannazzaro Refinery in northern Italy will soon begin.  Daily Thermetrics' CatTracker® technology is the selected reactor monitoring system and is installed in the EST reactors.

As global clean fuel specifications continue to become more demanding, hydrotreating will continue to monopolize distillate and gasoline processing unit catalyst involvement.

 

Monitoring Catalyst Utilization & Condition: Refiners operating hydrotreating catalyst with CatTracker® technology have a significant advantage over their competing refiners who still employ dated technologies such as equipment with only single sensor probes.

Naphtha Reforming with CatTracker® Technology

 

 

 

 

CCR Reforming

Daily Thermetrics is the UOP specified supplier for UOP’s Platformer® CCR regenerator.      Working closely with UOP on both specification and application, CatTracker® technology inside UOP’s Platformer® regenerator allows refiners the ability to locate a sensor anywhere in the regenerator tower with the highest level of accuracy, precision, and reliability.

 

Daily Thermetrics also provides CatTracker® technology for AXENS’ naptha CCR reforming technologies including AXENS’ proprietary reforming regeneration tower.  Refiners in Europe, India, and China are now using CatTracker® technology in their AXENS’ reforming regeneration tower.

 

Semi-Regen Reforming

Semi-regen reforming is also an excellent candidate for CatTracker® sensors.  Commonly a radial flow reactor, Daily Thermetrics has several successfully operational CatTracker® assemblies in radial flow reactors.

 

Cyclic Regeneration Reforming

Cyclic regeneration reforming was the original reforming application for the CatTracker® in 2006.  Since then, Daily Thermetrics has supplied CatTracker® sensors to several spherical cyclic-regen reformers.

Applying the CatTracker® to Syngas Reactors

 

Daily Thermetrics' CatTracker® probe, adapted specifically for tubular reactors, allows processors the ability to specify up to eleven (11) sensors in a single 1/4" (6.34mm) OD metallic sheath.  Daily Thermetrics has hundreds of CatTracker® sensors operating in a variety of tubular catalytic reactors around the world.

 

Starting in 2006, Daily Thermetrics partnered with JM Process Technologies [www.jmprotech.com] to provide a packaged JMcatalyst+CatTracker® offering for primary reformers.  Since then, the partnership has profiled many primary reformers providing never before captured temperature gradients of the catalyst tube and allowing the processor improved ability to customize primary reformer catalyst.

 

Shift Reactor profiles have also become a popular application for use of CatTracker® sensors.  The unique ability of the CatTracker® to combine industry leading accuracy and precision with multiple isolated and independent sensors within a single sheath has attracted many syngas processeors to employ the CatTracker® in their Low Temperature Shift (LTS), Medium Temperature Shift (MTS) and High Temperature Shift (HTS) reactors.  Providing both radial and vertical sensor arrangements, and with an endless catalog of layout configurations, revamping existing shift reactors has become common place for Daily Thermetrics.
